Implementing Nitrous Oxide Cracking Technology in the Labour Ward

Implementing nitrous oxide cracking technology in the labour ward to reduce occupational exposure and environmental emissions: a quality improvement study.

Mitigating nitrous oxide emissions alongside thorough evaluation of how we can reduce our waste is hugely important to us as an organisation. Nitrous oxide, while a safe and clinical useful medicine, has almost 300 times the global warming effect of carbon dioxide and we can’t ignore that. This destruction technology offers us an opportunity to address this issue head on and we look forward to breaking new ground with the mobile units the minute they arrive! Both MedClair and BPR Medical have been a huge support throughout this journey and our teams have learned so much already about what this will offer.”

Dr Emma Evans, Consultant Anaesthetist, St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
By virtually eliminating the production of nitrous oxide in this way, we are creating a safer space for mothers during labour and helping to protect the environment their babies will grow up in.”
